Father's Day Cookout

The Academy Of Gateway wanted to do something nice for Father's Day. We decided since it was too hot to bring the cookout inside. We had food, drinks, and best of all family. Our families showed up with dad to kick back and have fun. Father's are essential to the family unit and what better way to celebrate all of our wonderful dads other than to cook and play games. Check out some of our photos.

We appreciate all the love and kind words all of our families share with us.

Sunscreen Importance

Here at The Academy of Gateway we firmly believe in what is best for our families, staff and most of all of the children. Sunscreen is just one of the ways we protect against the Ultra Violet Rays that can damage the skin. We provide 50SPF sunscreen in the afternoon before outside play and suggest parents bring in hats, sunglasses, and proper shoes to prevent any unnecessary sun exposure. We believe that modeling is one of the best ways to teach young children, so we encourage everyone to participate in preventative actions. I want to pass along 5 easy and effective ways to protect your child from the sun!!

  • Seek shade. UV rays are strongest and most harmful during midday, so it’s best to plan indoor activities then. If this is not possible, seek shade under a tree, an umbrella, or a pop-up tent. Use these options to prevent sunburn, not to seek relief after it’s happened.
  • Cover up. When possible, long-sleeved shirts and long pants and skirts can provide protection from UV rays. Clothes made from tightly woven fabric offer the best protection. A wet T-shirt offers much less UV protection than a dry one, and darker colors may offer more protection than lighter colors.
  • Get a hat. Hats that shade the face, scalp, ears, and neck are easy to use and give great protection. Baseball caps are popular among kids, but they don’t protect their ears and neck. If your child chooses a cap, be sure to protect exposed areas with sunscreen.
  • Wear sunglasses. They protect your child’s eyes from UV rays, which can lead to cataracts later in life. Look for sunglasses that wrap around and block as close to 100% of both UVA and UVB rays as possible.
  • Apply sunscreen. Use sunscreen with at least SPF 15 and UVA and UVB protection every time your child goes outside. For the best protection, apply sunscreen generously 30 minutes before going outdoors. Don’t forget to protect ears, noses, lips, and the tops of feet.
I hope you have found these quick and easy tips helpful in order to prevent any sunburns or sun damage. Summer is always a great time to be outside and enjoy nature but should be done safely.

PreK Prom

PreK Prom Awesomeness!
Check out how much fun we had at our PreK Prom. Pictures are worth a thousand words and these might be worth a little more. We really enjoyed being with our families for fun and food before summer! Our friends are all grown up and getting ready for Kindergarten this Fall. We wish them the best of luck and are welcomed to visit anytime!

We are grateful and so lucky to have been able to watch these children grow, learn and play everyday here at The Academy of Gateway. It was a very bittersweet moment for us all.
