Glow In the Dark Bowling

We had a great time Glow in the Dark Bowling today!! Our classrooms come up with great gross motor activities when the weather won't let us get outside! Developing gross motor skills is an essential part of a child's development. Children start developing their gross motor skills from birth through obtaining control over their head, trunk and limbs and rapidly increase their abilities throughout the preschool years. Gross motor skills are essential because a child’s body develops from large movements with arms and legs to smaller more refined movements of the hands and fingers. Gross motor control enables children to develop the fine motor movements that are essential for success in the school years.

Green Our Scene Family Picnic

Today we had our Green our Scene family picnic.  Moms, Dads, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, etc were all welcome to come and join us for a picnic lunch today!  We had so much fun getting to know each other, and  the weather was beautiful!!

Preschool 4 Sensory Creations

Preschool 4 had so much fun creating different sensory activities for their classroom today! The sensory bags we created were simply hair gel and food coloring, and the sensory tubs in the classroom are silly, squishy balls that we got to watch grow.  Why is sensory play so important for a child's development, you ask??  When children are engaged in sensory play they use all of their senses.  This promotes sensory integration, which is the ability of the body to integrate and process all of the information it receives via touch, taste, hearing, vision, and smell.  As the children pour, dump, scoop, build, and explore they are learning about spatial concepts (full/empty).  They learn pre-math concepts along with language and vocabulary.  Messy play can sometimes be calming to children.  It is not just about making a mess and getting dirty; it is an essential component to learning the encourages exploration and discovery through play.
Here are some great sensory ideas for you to use in your home....
Painting with Shaving Cream
Making Mud Pies
Hair Gel Bags(You could also us Karo Syrup with food coloring)
Riding Trucks and Cars through the sand
and there are so many other ideas!!!

Eco-Exploring Special Guest

All In One Recycling came to visit us today and talk to us about recycling, how to keep our school clean, and about the Earth Day promises we made.  All In One Recycling is a recycling service in our Murfreesboro area.  Did you know that statistics show 50%-85% of all household waste is recyclable??  Well today Ms. Kayley showed us what materials we can recycle in our everyday home.  We also got to plant seeds in a container that is bio-degradable, and we will get to plant the container once our seeds start to grow.  If you are looking for good information about recycling, or for a good recycling service please check out http://www.allinonerecycling.com/.  Thank you Ms. Kayley for coming to see us today!!!
