Happy Halloween!!!

 

This week at The Academy Of Gateway we have been all about Halloween! We have done lots of educational activities that tie in with the theme. We also have let the kids make spooky snacks with their classmates. We had a chef  come teach the children how to make ghost balls! We toped it off with our class parties today!

Here are some fun activities to do at home:

• Candy Bingo 
• Spider Web fun with ring spiders( fine motor )
• Carving pumpkins and exploring the inside (sensory)
• Pumpkin seed counting

Community Helpers!

 

This week at The Academy Of Gateway we have been learning about Community Helpers! Community helpers are people who live and work in our communities. Learning about Community Helpers offers lots of benefits for kids. It promotes safety by teaching kids how to ask for help, and just as importantly, who to ask. We had lots of activities for them to learn about the different helpers. Some are plumbers, gardener, teacher, doctor, postman, farmer, and electrician's. We even had a Community Helper come visit!

Fire Fighters!

 

We have been learning about Fire Safety this week at The Academy Of Gateway! The children have learned what to do and how to be prepared if a fire ever happened around them. We had fun activities to teach them about what to look for and how to call for help! (and who to call ) All the kids practiced calling 911! We also had fire fighters come out to see us!

Here are some great tips for home:

• Don't play near fire places or stoves
• Keep flammable objects out of reach of children
• Make sure all smoke detectors are working
• Have an escape plan/Make sure they know your names

Pumpkins!

 
This week at The Academy Of Gateway we have been exploring pumpkins. The children have loved learning about the pumpkins. We have had different activities for them to do to learn all about what you could do with a pumpkin. We explored our pumpkins by cutting them open and feeling the inside. The children colored them and counted its seeds! We even let our older classes taste the seeds after they cooked. Mother goose also visited us to tell us all about jack-'O- lanterns!

Here are some activities you can do at home:

• Pumpkin Carving 
•  Roast Pumpkin seeds
• Sensory by exploring the inside 
• Decorate the pumpkin

Solar System!

 
We have been learning all about the Solar System this week at The Academy Of Gateway. The kids have enjoyed learning the differences in the planets. Learning about the solar system will help them gain a greater appreciation for the frailness of Earth. Knowing why your planet is special and how you can protect that uniqueness helps keep the planet safe and healthy for their generation to live in. The term solar System refers to the "family" of the Sun. The Sun is a star around which eight planets revolve in orbits. This whole system of bodies is called the Solar System!
