Tadpoles At The Academy Of Gateway

We have recently integrated the Tadpoles Program here at our center into our Daily Activities. The Tadpoles program makes it easier for parents to be more involved and informed, easier for the teachers to share moments and information, and for the administration to oversee attendance, curriculum, and activities and best of all it is paperless, sent straight to your smartphone. We are really enjoying have this great piece of technology at our facility. I grabbed some photos from portfolios to share, these quick snapshots are of moments being shared with parents throughout the day and our parents love them!

Come Monkey Around With Oobleck

Our biggest question today has been, is it a liquid or a solid?

We used all of our senses to figure out what exactly it is. Is it a solid or liquid but I don't think any of my friends know, but no worries we will find out. Grab your thinking caps and lets figure this out together.

It is a great sensory experience for our little ones and a way to talk about matter with our older kids!

Our 2 year old friends were stumped and not sure if they should put it in their mouth or wipe it on their clothes... decision..decisions.

Piper didn't want to leave. But she was a little unsure of the feeling, so she wiped her hands off in between each feel.

Our new friend William enjoyed it so much he put BOTH hands into the mystery matter.

And when he brought them out he dunked them again. and this happened at least ten more times.

Sylas enjoyed playing on the surface of the Oobleck and then digging into it to play around with it.

Mason B. favorite expression while he played was " ohhhhhh, ahhhhhh", But still no thoughts on whether it was a solid or liquid.

Caden decided he wanted to add a little color to his oobleck and added red to his already green oobleck. But wasn't to pleased with the resulting "blah" color as he called it.

Then I had my last expert try it out, to see if she could figure it out and even daddy was a bit stumped. But she kept trying and playing around with the substance.

Would you like to know the mystery behind it all?

Cornstarch consists of long chains of atoms. When you move them slowly past one another, they move as a liquid because they can slide easily past one another. When you squeeze, roll, or agitate them, the “atom chains” will get entangled and form a solid! Substances like oobleck are commonly also known as non-Newtonian fluids because they do not have the normal properties of either solids or liquids.

Mystery Solved.

So now we know if  you move slowly or hold it still, it behaves like a liquid. But if you quickly agitate it or attempt to roll it up, it behaves like a solid!

Hopping Into Spring

We've got Spring Bunnies!
Spring is all about new beginnings and growth. At The Academy Of Gateway we are always trying new and fun innovative ideas with out little ones to expand their knowledge. Our Preschool 2 Class became bunnies for a day and shed their winter fur. Which called for fun pictures and silly faces, check us out!

How cute are these sweet looking bunnies. We played with bunny ears on and it really got us hopping.

I think we have found a new species. Fish-Bunny or Bunish? And She is absolutely a gem.

Bunnies in Preschool 2 are pretty handsome!

And We we're lucky to have a super bunny (:

I don't know about you, but We LOVE our new look. Don't you?

Hop on by and see us at The Academy Of Gateway in Murfreesboro soon. We've heard children grow more in the Spring than in the fall, so don't miss this chance to come and experience your child's growth with us here.
