Out Of This World!

 This week here at The Academy Of  Gateway we have been learning about space! The kids have learned all about the planets. We have had lots of activities to show their creativity on picking which planet they like the most. A lot of the children said they would love to try out a astronaut suit! We have been working on making our own astronaut gear. 

Here are some activities you can do at home:

• Number Rockets
• Moon Paint
• Can you catch a star (fine motor skill)
• Phases of the moon pie (a snack) 
• Space sensory bottles
• Sensory bin with space items

Construction Ahead - Kids At Work!

 Last week AOG explored the world of construction! Who knew we had so many handy kiddos! Constructive play (also known as constructing play or construction play) involves manipulating elements of the play environment to construct something new. This may involve all sorts of different construction methods – stacking, assembling, disassembling, sorting or molding, to name just a few. Friday was a big day for construction with POOL NOODLES!

Construction play teaches children to problem-solve, connect socially, understand and be inquisitive in their play. They learn about the attributes of different materials, engage their curiosity and imagination, and experiment with applying concepts and exploring new ways to use physical materials.

Construction play helps children to cooperate with each other in order to complete tasks. This could be something as simple as passing each other bricks or passing buckets to each other. By doing this children will strengthen their social skills and become better team players.

Class of 2020!!!

Today we are celebrating our class of 2020! Some have been with us since birth while others have joined us this year. While we are happy to send them off into the world we are sad to see them go. How lucky are we to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard! These great kiddos have all the tools to succeed. Ooey Gooey Week!

 This week at The Academy Of Gateway we have been all about sensory.  Research shows that sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain's pathways, which lead to the child's ability to complete more complex learning tasks. Sensory play supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.

Here are some great activities:

• Paint bags (paint in zip lock bags )
• Shaving cream (write your letters)
• Slime/Puddy 
• Foam Paint
