Preschool Math

Preschool math helps children explore and make sense of their world. It teaches them reasoning and problem solving skills. Even for young children, math is more than a game of numbers. Math has many dimensions, including:
  • Number sense:5 is more than 4 and represents five objects
  • Geometry: Patterns and Shapes
  • Measurement: Size, distance, and amount
  • Math Language: More than, less than, equal to
  • Spatial Relations: In front of behind, near or far
When you watch a child in the classroom, you will realize how much they use math concepts in a day.

Fun with Geometry!

What weighs more?

At The Academy of Gateway we are engaging in math concepts daily. This week during our Project Play our mission is Math! The children are doing special projects in the classroom. Math is everywhere in our world. Our teachers do a amazing job putting a spotlight on the math concepts all around us.

Rainy Day Fun

Rainy days are in the forecast. No one wants to spend their days inside bored. You can always put on rain gear or swim wear and head out to splash in the puddles, but when your stuck indoors here are some fun indoor activities.

Here at The Academy of Gateway we didn't let the rain stop our splash day! We just had extra fun in the rain.

The Importance Of Sensory Play

It is really important for the little ones to experience sensory play. Here at The Academy we encourage the children to use all of their senses. (sight, touch, hearing, taste, and smell). They are learning cognitive growth, language development, gross, and fine motor skills.

Summer is a great time for learning and getting messy with sensory play!
Here is your summer bucket list!

Fresh Fruit and Veggies

June is National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month. There is no better time to work on incorporating fruit and veggies to your little ones diet.

It is recommended that half the plate be fruit and veggies.
Try to choose at least one dark green and orange vegetable per day.
Prepare with little to no fat, sugar, or salt.
Limit juice to a half a cup of 100% juice per day.

It's hard to know how much fruit and vegetables your child should be eating.
Here are some recommendations:

At the Academy of Gateway we are a Gold Sneaker Facility. In this program we make sure the kids have the correct portion size, have a fruit and vegetable with each meal, only serve milk or water with meals. This also ensures that they get physical activity each day.
