Who said Gardens Cant Grow Inside!

This week at The Academy Of Gateway we have been planting and gardening. Doing this with  preschoolers is a great way to learn about the natural world through hands on activities and experiences. They learn about science by using practical skills. You can help your children learn about spring, plants (their life cycle), and growth by planting and caring for flowers and vegetables.

Here are some great things they learn from gardening:

•  Enhances fine motor skills
• Engages all senses
• Encourages healthy eating
• Introduces kids to scientific concepts
• Teaches responsibility
• Teaches patience

Memorial Day!

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971.


Here are some great activities to do on that day :

• Family Picnic
• Neighborhood hunt
• Water play
• Draw and color the U.S. flag

Bike Day!

Here at the Academy of Gateway we had a blast on our bike day! Riding a bike is an important skill that every kid should learn. No matter how young or old they are, getting them into this fun activity is definitely a must. More than that your kids can pick up a ton of life lessons by paddling around on their bike.

Here are some great things that come from riding a bike:

•  Great cardiovascular and body strengthener
•  The speed provides vestibular stimulation.
•  It increases their coordination and balance.

 We have been all about shapes here at The Academy Of Gateway! Learning shapes not only helps children identify and organize visual information, it helps them learn skills in other curriculum areas including reading, math, and science. Learning shapes also helps children understand other signs and symbols.
