Memorial Day!

Memorial Day is an American holiday, observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Memorial Day 2022 will occur on Monday, May 30. 

Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Many Americans observe Memorial Day by visiting cemeteries or memorials, holding family gatherings and participating in parades. Unofficially, it marks the beginning of the summer season. This week at The Academy of Gateway we celebrated Memorial Day by creating Memorial Day art.

 

Gross Motor Play and Fine Motor Skills!

 Gross motor skills and fine motor skills are needed for children to engage in creative activities such as dance and art. They are also important for health as children need to move to be active. Gross motor skills are needed for pushing, pulling, walking, or crawling while fine motor skills are needed for mark making in communication, language, and literacy.

 

The Life Cycle of a Butterfly!

 

Here at the Academy of Gateway we kicked off spring with learning the Life Cycle of a Butterfly. Our kiddos learned that the butterfly goes through a process called metamorphosis. We also learned the four stages in metamorphosis are egg, larva, pupa, and adult butterfly. 

Happy Mothers Day!

 

We wanted to wish all of our mothers here at The Academy of Gateway a Happy Mothers Day! 

We celebrated all of our moms by hosting a special event. We had some yummy quiche and a bubbly drink ( Momosa's) for all the mothers.
