Learning in the Kitchen

The kitchen is the tastiest place for your child to learn. They learn math, science, art, safety, health, nutrition, culture, and even how to follow directions. They enjoy this process as well as enjoying the finished product. They may not even realize that they are learning.
Here are some great age appropriate ideas to get them started in the kitchen.

Last week at The Academy of Gateway, our Health and Wellness Coordinator Ms. Colleen went in to the classrooms to make ice cream. The children enjoyed this tasty treat while learning about measurements as well as a science lesson.

Here is Ms. Colleen Ice Cream In A Bag Recipe:

1 Cup Half and Half
2 Tbsp Sugar
1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
3 Cups Ice
1/3 Cup Kosher Salt

Directions:
In a small Ziploc bag, combine half and half, sugar, and vanilla.
Push out excess air and seal.

In a gallon size Ziploc bag, combine ice and salt.

Place small bag in big bag and shake vigorously, 7 to 10 min, until ice cream has hardened.

Remove bag and enjoy with your favorite ice cream toppings.

Shake it up

 And Enjoy!
