Art!

Art can help children learn and practice skills like patterning and cause and effect("If I push very hard with a crayon the color is darker") They can also practice critical thinking skills by making a mental plan or picture of what they intend to create and following through on their plan. Art builds fine motor skills, encourages neural connections, and promotes creativity.

Planting Seeds!

This week at The Academy Of Gateway we have been all about planting! The children got to pick out which flower they wanted plant and watch grow. Gardening with children provides them with skills to help your child's development. For example, gardening is a great physical development activity. Young children can practice locomotor skills, body management skills and object control skills while they move from one place to the other carrying tools, soil and water.

Nutrition For Kids!

Making sure your child has a well-balanced diet is important for them to grow into healthy adults. You need to offer children foods that contain all the important nutrients. It is one of the best ways to ensure healthy growth and a safe learning environment. Its not only what you feed them that matters, It's also how you serve them. Here at The Academy Of gateway we make sure the kids are aware of what comes next. Keeping consistency will help the children with eating more. ( specially picky eaters)We are gold sneaker and make sure each child has all components at each meal.

Children & Nature!

Nature ignites imagination and promotes healthy development! Developing literacy skills can happen in the classroom or outside. Books about animals and insects encourage curiosity to engage in conversations and make observations in nature. Encourage children to write or draw their observations. With younger ones, you can write down descriptions of their art. Take a nature walk around the building or around the block. Remember the importance of supervision if your adventure takes you away from the school. Take pictures that can be used for discussion during circle time. Introduce unfamiliar words to their vocabulary and use open ended questions to help with cognitive skills. Use the pictures to create art projects or create stories that encourage writing skills. A book like Little Cloud by Eric Carle inspires children to lie on their backs and look at the clouds! This can be done with both our youngest learners and our older ones.
