International Women’s Day is a day that honors women and their rights. It takes place every year on March 8. International Women’s Day dates back to 1911, when many women were fighting for the right to vote. The United Nations began sponsoring the day in 1975.
People around the world celebrate International Women’s Day. In some places, women receive flowers or other gifts. Groups in many countries arrange talks, performances, and other activities. Each year the UN helps to organize events related to a specific women’s rights issue—for example, improving education or ending violence against women.
We asked some of our Pre-K girls what's the best part about being a girl and these answers are some of the best. We explained to them that they have a lot of freedom now because of the women who fought for their rights.
